Basics about Chiropractors
Joint “manipulation is an old technique that was first tried in China where they also called it “push-grab”. One of the ancient Greece’s even say that this is a delicate method and it can cause serious complications that might even lead to death if it’s not done in the proper way.
The methods used back in the day in China or Greece are really different from what chiropractors do nowadays. They have to find and see how the vertebra is subluxated and afterwards they try to combine different ways measuring the gravity of the subluxation using static or motion palpation, x-rays and instrumentation.
These methods provide us with accurate information to let us know how the extremities or the spine should be put back in its correct position, motion and biomechanical function, which is the main purpose of it because that way it would also help reducing the nerve’s irritation and it would improve its function.
In order to make the right placement we have to notice and take care of many factors. The key vertebra must be found in order to see which landmark on it must be precisely touched. The doctor will establish the land mark on that vertebra with its thumb or fingertip then he must find the precise line of correction and function for the joints so that the adjustment will be painless and precise.
The patient’s position is also very important but for that we have many kinds of devices and table that can be used. For example, a neck adjustment is done using a fingertip contact to set the vertebra while the patient has to sit comfortable in a chair .
Those would have to be the main elements for a chiropractic adjustment.
As its opposite, a general manipulation of the joints might feel alright for a while but it will only be a short term solution.
Each chiropractic methods used in making corrective adjustments is different but each one of them has the same goal: correcting subluxations. The Gonstead Method would have to be the best that works for us because of its precision and meticulosity of the patient’s evaluation.
